Puppy Resources

Over the years, I've answered a lot of questions from our puppy families. Everything from what to expect that first night home to feeding, crate training, socialization and what life with a Miniature American Shepherd is really like.

I realized that if one family is wondering about something, there's a pretty good chance another family is too! So this is where we're gathering some of the information we find ourselves sharing most often.

​

Some of these resources may be helpful while you're still deciding whether a Miniature American Shepherd is the right dog for your family. Others are here for the exciting stage of getting ready for your puppy to come home, and some will hopefully be useful as you're navigating those first weeks, months and years together.

We certainly don't have all the answers, and when it comes to health or medical questions we'll always encourage our families to work closely with their veterinarian. We also recommend especially if you are a first time dog owner and/or don't have previous experience with a herding breed to go ahead and find a trainer that you feel comfortable with that works with herding breeds that can help you with training your puppy or dog. Nothing beats having someone professional face to face that knows both you and your dog for advice and assistance. But after raising a lot of puppies and walking alongside their families as they've gone home, there are many things we've learned along the way that we're happy to share.

Our hope is simply to make things a little easier. We want our families to feel prepared for their puppy, comfortable asking questions and confident that they can always reach back out to us when they need to.
